People that
walked with God always chose the pathways of prayers; we also should do the same today. We will learn a lot about prayers
from the Saints in the Scriptures. Abraham’s Prayers: Abraham prayers taught
us to be direct in the place of prayers. In Genesis 15 he went straight to the point, is it
this Eleazar of Damascus that shall be my heir? Because he asked a direct question, he got a direct answer: “You shall
have a Son coming from your own body!”
Discursive Prayers: Abraham’s prayer
does not just consist of a direct question, it involved a detailed discussion. In the discussions, options were investigated
and rejected, assurances were given and received, fears were allayed and dissipated, a conclusion was agreed on with a specific
action plan.
A “Bring Me” Prayer: We often go to God with
requests. “Give me this, give me that; in Jesus name!” In case of Abraham however,
God demanded an action plan which required Abraham to give! It was a
“Bring this and that to me” action plan. God’s demands were not for the faint of heart. God demanded
very specific gifts and detailed how they were to be treated. He gave Abraham time to assemble them and defend their integrity.
Defend the Integrity of God’s Instruction: Yes… defend the integrity! There is certain holiness to God’s instruction, certain
weight, certain awe, and certain godly
fear that accompanies the instructions which God gives in the place of Prayer. We like Abraham must defend the integrity
of what God commands that we should bring.
Persevering Prayer: Our Lord demanded that
we pray without ceasing. Imagine Abraham ceasing his effort to prevent the birds of the air from eating his sacrifices? Imagine
what would have been the result of such a careless decision. Let us not be weary in well doing, let us persevere in the place
of prayers, May the Lord punish the forces that seek to enslave our lives.
